MLB – Court: Lawsuit against MLB over foul ball injury can proceed
An Illinois appellate court has ruled a woman who was struck by a foul ball at Wrigley Field can go ahead with a lawsuit against Major League Baseball. The court ruled Tuesday the plaintiff was not limited to arbitrating her case with baseball’s governing body. Laiah Zuniga was struck in the face by a foul ball during a 2018 Cubs game. In the lawsuit filed last year, Zuniga says the ball knocked her unconscious, caused facial fractures and damage to her teeth. She blames her injuries on the failure to extend netting that protects fans from foul balls down the third base line, where she was sitting.

MLB – Report: James becomes partner in group that owns Red Sox
LeBron James reportedly owns a piece of Xander Bogaerts. The Boston Globe first reported that the Los Angeles Lakers All-Star forward has reportedly become a partner in Fenway Sports Group, making him a part-owner of the Boston Red Sox. Fenway Sports Group is the parent company of the Red Sox as well as the Liverpool Football Club of the English Premier League and the Roush Fenway Racing NASCAR team. James has had a relationship with FSG since 2011, when he signed a marketing deal in exchange for an ownership stake in Liverpool.

Golf – Tiger Woods returns to Florida to recover from car crash
Tiger Woods says he’s back home in Florida to resume recovering from career-threatening injuries to his right leg. Woods posted a statement on Twitter that he will recovering at home and working on getting stronger. He was injured on Feb. 23 while driving an SUV to a television shoot along winding suburban roads in Los Angeles. Woods had been in town as tournament host of the Genesis Invitational. The SUV crashed over a median and off the road. He shattered bones in his lower right leg, ankle and foot. Woods says he’s thankful for the outpouring of support.

NCAAMBB – 6 officials out of NCAA Tournament after 1 tests positive
Six officials won’t be working the NCAA Tournament after one tested positive for COVID-19. The other five were deemed close contacts after arriving in Indianapolis. NCAA senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt says there are enough officials available for the tournament that begins Thursday and ramps up over the weekend. Gavitt says there have been five positive results out of 2,300 overall completed tests so far. He cautioned those positives didn’t necessarily involve team personnel. Georgia Tech reported a positive test, but did not provide specifics.

NCAAMBB – Sister Jean thrilled to join Loyola Chicago for NCAA
Loyola Chicago is back in the NCAA Tournament. And Sister Jean will be there, too. The 101-year-old team chaplain’s lobbying paid off when the school reversed course and announced she will go. That means she gets to watch her beloved Ramblers in person for the first time this season when Loyola meets Georgia Tech in Indianapolis on Friday. Sister Jean Dolores Schmidt couldn’t be happier. She says she wanted to go “because of the team.” The Ramblers are in the tournament for the first time since their stunning Final Four run in 2018. Sister Jean became at celebrity at age 98 back then with national TV interviews. She even got her own bobblehead.

How arenas work to keep fans safe attending indoor sports
There will be fans in the stands when the NCAA Tournament tips off this week. The NBA and NHL have been filling arenas to limited degrees since their seasons began earlier this winter. Getting people back inside sports venues has taken some time during the pandemic because of evidence of how the coronavirus spreads. Experts in epidemiology, ventilation, engineering and architecture say it’s very low risk to attend indoor sporting events because of how big arenas work to move and mix air. That is as long as capacity limits allow for physical distancing and masks are still worn properly.

NFL – Bears agree to 1-year, $10 million contract with QB Dalton
The Chicago Bears agreed to a one-year, $10 million contract with former Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton, agent Jeffrey Nalley said. The three-time Pro Bowler could earn an additional $3 million in bonuses. Dalton signed with Dallas last May to back up Dak Prescott after getting released by Cincinnati. He wound up starting nine games, officially going 4-4 to bring his career record to 74-65-2, with Prescott suffering a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5. The Cowboys finished 6-10 and missed the playoffs for the second year in a row. Signing Dalton gives the Bears two veteran quarterbacks with Nick Foles also on the roster. And it almost certainly shuts the door on 2017 No. 2 overall draft pick Mitchell Trubisky re-signing.

NFL – QB Fitzpatrick headed to Washington
A person with direct knowledge of the move tells The Associated Press that Washington has agreed to sign veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.  The 38-year-old gives Washington more experience at football’s most important position after it released Alex Smith. The team now has Fitzpatrick, journeyman-turned-playoff standout Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen under contract at quarterback.  Washington also has the 19th pick in the draft and could use one of its first few selections on a QB of the future

LLWS – Play Ball! Little League World Series eyes possible return
Little League World Series organizers are hoping the event can return this summer. The 2020 World Series was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization has established a Pandemic Response Commission tasked with finding a way to bring players from all over the globe to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, in August. Little League has also started a “Lift Your League” fundraising campaign that allows people to direct payments to specific leagues across the country to help ease the financial impact of the pandemic.
