Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete Of The Week – Derek Flory

Derek Flory of Marcellus High School Track is our WSJM Sports Van Buren/Cass Student Athlete of the Week for the week of April 29, 2018.

In the Wildcat’s meet against Centreville, Derek won the 110 Meter Hurdles, 300 Meter Hurdles, and the Long Jump. He then went on to win the same three events in a meet against Bridgman and Brandywine. He ended the week by winning the 110 Hurdles and 300 Hurdles at the Centreville Invitational, while placing second in the Long Jump and running a leg for the second place 1600 Meter Relay team. Derek’s best long jump mark for the week was 20ft. 3in., his best 110 Hurdles time was :15.28, and his best 300 Hurdles time for the week was :39.41 (a new Centreville Invitational record).

Derek is also a First Team All-Conference member of the Marcellus football team, an Honorable Mention All-Conference member of the basketball team, along with the National Honor Society and Jazz Band. In the classroom, he carries a 3.5 grade point average.

Derek is the son of Bill and Breck Flory of Marcellus.

Other finalists for the week were Grady Lycan of Lawton track and baseball, and Amy Steinkraus of Marcellus track.
