MLB – MLB 4 days from deadline to cancel games and shorten season
Another negotiating session produced only minor movement and no proposals on big-money issues, leaving Major League Baseball four days from management’s Monday night deadline for a deal to salvage opening day and a 162-game season. Both sides appeared to be in a you-make-the-next-move staredown on central economic issue of the lockout, such as luxury tax thresholds and rates, the minimum salary and the proposed bonus pool for pre-arbitration players. Given those stances, it appeared the earliest movement on the main issues would be in the hours before management says it will carry through on its threat to start canceling games.

NFL – Aikman expected to leave Fox for ESPN ‘Monday Night’ booth
ESPN is near the goal line of landing a top-tier talent to join the “Monday Night Football” booth. Troy Aikman is on the verge of leaving Fox after 22 years to become the lead analyst on the primetime package. The New York Post reported that Aikman will sign a five-year deal that would rival the $17.5 million per year Tony Romo is making at CBS. Aikman has been with Joe Buck on Fox’s top crew since 2002, but there have been rumblings the past couple of months that the Hall of Fame quarterback had been looking to move on.

NCAAFB – Marshall granted restraining order in C-USA arbitration bid
A judge has granted Marshall University a temporary restraining order against Conference USA after the league filed a request for arbitration in the school’s bid to expedite an early move to the Sun Belt. The order prohibits Conference USA from proceeding with arbitration. A judge set another hearing for March 16.  Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Mississippi accepted invitations to the Sun Belt during the fall. Each announced earlier this month they planned to terminate memberships in C-USA on June 30 to join their new conference. C-USA has said the three schools are contractually obligated to stay put for another year.
