White Sox Drop Series Opener To Angels

The White Sox are dropping their road series opener. Chicago fell 4-3 to the Angels in Anaheim. Reynaldo Lopez took the loss in relief after Lucas Giolito allowed two runs over six innings for the no-decision. Gavin Sheets had a pair of hits and Jose Abreu added an RBI double for the White Sox, who fell to 34-and-38. Chicago has lost five of its last six and sends right-hander Johnny Cueto to the mound tonight.

Tigers Visit Giants Tonight

The Tigers are by the bay tonight. Detroit will visit the San Francisco Giants. Tarik Skubal starts for the Tigers. Carlos Rodon takes the mound for the Giants.

Cubs Start Home Series With Reds

The Cubs are returning home to face a division rival. Chicago hosts the Reds tonight at Wrigley Field. The Cubs come off a series win over the Cardinals and have won three of their last five games. The club sends right-hander Keegan Thompson to the mound for the series opener. Opposite him is fellow righty Luis Castillo for Cincinnati. The Cubs come in at 28-and-45, while the Reds sit at 25-and-47.

MLB Hands Out Discipline To Angels And Mariners

MLB is laying down the law in response to Sunday’s bench-clearing brawl in Anaheim. Twelve members of the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners have received discipline for their roles in the on-field incident. Angels interim manager Phil Nevin received a 10-game suspension for the intentional throwing by pitcher Andrew Wantz while warnings were in place. Mariners outfielder Jesse Winker is being suspended seven games for actions that caused the incident and for fighting. The league also disciplined several others with five-game, three-game, two-game, and one-game suspensions.

Blackhawks Name Luke Richardson As Head Coach

The Blackhawks are officially naming their new head coach. Chicago announced Luke Richardson was hired as the franchise’s 40th head coach in team history. Richardson takes the reins from interim coach Derek King, who filled in after Jeremy Colliton was fired last season. Richardson spent the past four seasons as an assistant coach with the Canadiens. The 53-year-old was also a defenseman for the Oilers and Flyers over 21 years in the NHL.

Colorado Avalanche Championship Parade Set For Thursday

The Colorado Avalanche will celebrate their third Stanley Cup with a parade on Thursday. The Avs won their first title in 21 years with a 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.  Colorado won the series four games to two. A pre-parade rally will kick the festivities off at 9 a.m. local time, with the parade set to start at 10 a.m. It’ll be Denver’s first championship parade since the Broncos won the Super Bowl back in 2016.

Sedin Twins, Daniel Alfredsson, Roberto Luongo Headline Hockey HOF Class Of 2022

Twin brothers, a goaltender, and a long-time Ottawa Senators captain headline the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Class of 2022.  Henrik and Daniel Sedin [[ seh-DEEN ]] spent their careers with the Vancouver Canucks. They appeared in the 2011 Stanley Cup Final alongside their teammate and now fellow Hall of Famer Roberto Luongo [[ lew-on-go ]]. Meantime, Daniel Alfredsson is also having his name forever immortalized. He appeared in the 2007 Stanley Cup Final, but his Senators lost to the Anaheim Ducks. Alfredsson finished his career with the Detroit Red Wings.

Bulls Hope To Keep Zach LaVine

The Bulls are hoping to keep one of their top scorers from last season. Chicago executive vice president Arturas Karnisovas said on Monday that the team wants to keep guard Zach LaVine as he enters unrestricted free agency this offseason. LaVine was named to his second All-Star game after averaging 24.4 points and 4.5 assists per game last season. The 27-year-old is recovering from arthroscopic surgery in his left knee.

Houston Texans Sued On Deshaun Watson “Enabling” Claims

Houston Texans are being sued by a massage therapist claiming the team enabled Deshaun Watson. Toi Garner filed suit on Monday in Harris County saying the Texans would let Watson reach out to masseuses on social media even though they had a full-time training staff. She also says the now-Cleveland Browns quarterback gave her a Non-Disclosure Agreement from the Texans before the massage, then committed a sex act. Garner is being represented by Tony Buzbee, the attorney who’s sued Watson over 20 times claiming he committed sexual misconduct against massage therapists.

Report: Commanders Owner Dan Snyder Declined Subpoena

Washington Commanders owner Dan Snyder is still declining to testify to the U.S. House Oversight Committee. Snyder has yet to accept a subpoena issued by the committee to testify during their investigation into a toxic work culture within the Washington franchise. ESPN reports one of Snyder’s lawyers received the subpoena, via email, and declined to accept it. Snyder avoided appearing during last week’s hearing after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell testified on behalf of the league. The owner claimed he was unavailable during the hearing due to being out of the country.

First AFL Black Starting Quarterback Briscoe Passes Away

The football world is mourning the loss of an icon. Former Denver Bronco Marlin Briscoe, who became the first Black starting quarterback in the American Football League, passed away on Monday. He was 76. The Omaha, Nebraska native was drafted by the Broncos as a cornerback in the 14th round of the 1968 draft. “The Magician” talked himself into a tryout at quarterback and made his first career start under center on October 6th.

Report: Adrian Peterson And Le’Veon Bell Set For Boxing Match

Two NFL running backs are clashing in the boxing ring. ESPN reports Adrian Peterson and Le’Veon Bell have each signed contracts to meet in a heavyweight boxing exhibition later this summer. The fight will take place on July 30th at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and marks the first time each athlete will compete in the ring. Both Peterson and Bell are currently free agents, but each played with multiple teams last season.

USFL Planning Second Season

The USFL is planning another season. League Board of Directors Chair Eric Shanks confirmed the second season to Sports Business Journal. The USFL’s first championship game is this weekend in Canton, Ohio.

Wimbledon Day One Recap

The opening day of Wimbledon is in the books. On the men’s side, top-seeded Novak Djokovic [[ jow-kuh-vuhch ]], Casper Ruud and 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz were among the early winners. Americans Frances Tiafoe, John Isner and Tommy Paul also advanced to the second round. Marin Cilic [[ chi-luhch ]] had to withdraw from the tournament after testing positive for COVID-19. On the women’s side, seventh-seeded Danielle Collins was upset in three sets by Marie Bouzkova. Second-seeded Anett Kontaveit and third-seeded Ons Jabeur each cruised to straight set victories.

Brittney Griner’s Trial To Begin Friday In Russia

Brittney Griner’s trial will began this Friday. The U.S. State Department has said the Phoenix Mercury center has been wrongfully detained since February when airport screeners claimed she had vape cartridges containing hashish, which is illegal in Russia, in her luggage. Russia last week extended the 31-year-old Griner’s pre-trial detention through July 2nd. A preliminary hearing was held in Moscow on Monday.
