Zach LaVine scored 14 of Chicago’s 46 third-quarter points, finishing with 21, as the Bulls outscored the Rockets by 20 points in the quarter to break open a tight game. Chicago had runs of 15-4 and 12-0 in the period. David Nwaba scored 22 points off the bench to lead Houston, which has lost eight straight. The Rockets had their previous two games postponed because of a winter storm and subsequent utility outages in the Houston area.

He has two goals and three assists in 13 games, last playing in a 2-1 victory at Dallas on Feb. 7. The Blackhawks also announced forward Dylan Strome was in the concussion protocol. Chicago’s next game is Tuesday night at Columbus.

NHL – Panarin denies Russian report, takes time away from Rangers
New York Rangers star Artemi Panarin is taking a leave of absence after a Russian tabloid printed allegations from a former coach that he attacked an 18-year-old woman in Latvia in 2011. Ex-NHL enforcer Andrei Nazarov is the source for the report after coaching Panarin in the Kontinental Hockey League. Nazarov says he was motivated to speak about it because he disagreed with Panarin’s criticism of the Russian government. Panarin denied the allegations in a statement released by the Rangers. The team said it backed its star player and called the allegations “an intimidation tactic.”

NCAABB – Gonzaga, Baylor remain atop AP Top 25 in quiet week
Gonzaga and Baylor remain atop The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll in a week of little change.  The top five from a week ago remained the same in the poll and no teams dropped out of the AP Top 25.  Gonzaga received 60 first-place votes from a media panel and Baylor had the other four, with the Bulldogs picking up one vote from the Bears. Michigan, Ohio State and Illinois rounded out the top five.  The Buckeyes held their spot despite losing 92-87 to the Wolverines on Sunday. No. 12 Houston dropped six spots and No. 15 Virginia lost eight while No. 9 Iowa and No. 10 West Virginia moved back into the top 10.  In the women’s poll, UConn remains No. 1 after blowing out its two opponents last week. North Carolina State returned to No. 2 and Texas A&M climbed to third, followed by Stanford and South Carolina.

NCAAFB – Michigan’s Harbaugh adds another coach off brother’s staff
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has added another assistant off his brother’s coaching staff. Harbaugh announced Monday he hired Baltimore Ravens running backs coach Matt Weiss to lead the Wolverines’ quarterbacks. Weiss worked with John Harbaugh in Baltimore and was a part of the Ravens’ staff the past 12 seasons. He previously coached Baltimore’s receivers and quarterbacks. Weiss reunites with Jim Harbaugh, who had him on the staff at Stanford from 2005 to 2008. Harbaugh has made many changes on his staff after getting a five-year contract.

NCAAFB – Notre Dame won’t participate in new EA Sports college football game
One of the biggest brand names in college football isn’t yet sure whether it wants to be included in the revitalized EA Sports college football video game when it returns to market. University of Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said his school will not provide its name, logos and other branding property to EA Sports for the game until new rules that determine whether athletes will be able to receive a cut of the game’s profits are finalized.  The NCAA has indicated that it intends to change its rules to allow college athletes the ability to make money from some types of endorsement deals. Federal and state lawmakers have also pushed legislation that would open up similar opportunities, some of which are scheduled to go into effect as early as this summer.

NFL – Shailene Woodley confirms she’s engaged to Aaron Rodgers
Shailene Woodley has confirmed she’s engaged to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Woodley discussed her relationship with Rodgers on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Monday and noted that they got engaged “a while ago.” The 37-year-old Rodgers had mentioned his engagement and thanked his fiancée while accepting his third career MVP award on Feb. 6 but didn’t say her name. Woodley says she hasn’t attended one of Rodgers’ games because of the pandemic and has little interest in football.

MLB – 1B Rizzo hopes to get long-term deal, remain with Cubs
Star slugger Anthony Rizzo is hopeful about signing a long-term deal with the Chicago Cubs before his contract expires at the end of the season. He says he loves the city and team and "what we have going on here.” President of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said last week he would have discussions with Rizzo, Kris Bryant and Javier Báez during spring training. All three players have expiring deals and are coming off difficult seasons. They also played huge roles in Chicago’s transformation from long-suffering, lovable losers to drought-busting champions.

MLB – Mariners President Kevin Mather apologizes for comments
Seattle Mariners CEO and team President Kevin Mather has apologized for comments made during a recent online event where he expressed opinions about organizational strategy, personnel moves and club finances. Mather’s comments came in a speech to the Bellevue, Washington, Breakfast Rotary Club on Feb. 5 and were posted online over the weekend. The video posted by the Rotary group was 46 minutes long and touched on areas of the Mariners’ organizational situation going into the 2021 season, many of which Seattle’s front office would rather not be made public.
