There’s a chance Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez may miss the start of the regular season.
Martinez injured his left knee last week during his off-season workout program. He underwent an MRI and examination at the Watson Clinic yesterday which revealed Martinez suffered a torn medial meniscus in his left knee.
He is scheduled for surgery Tuesday of next week with Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Florida. An additional update will be given at that time.
Detroit has not announced a timetable for Martinez’s return. The star designated hitter missed the entire 2012 season after injuring that same knee. Last season, he hit .335 with 32 home runs and 103 RBIs. The Tigers signed him to a $68 million, four-year deal after the season.
