Kaitlin Newton of St. Joseph High School Cross Country is Berrien County’s Student Athlete of the Week for the week of September 6, 2015. At the 14 team Lakeview Invitational, Kaitlin won the large school race with a time of 19:05. Her performance helped lead the Lady Bears to a first place finish in the large school division and a first place overall finish. Her time of 19:05 ties a personal best performance.
Kaitlin is also a member of the St. Joe Track team and plays travel softball in the summer. She also spends time volunteering for the Humane Society. In the classroom, she carries a 3.47 grade point average.
Kaitlin is the daughter of Brian and Beth Newton of St. Joseph.
Other finalists for the week were Kelly Walter of Coloma Volleyball and Malik McIntyre of Berrien Springs Football.
