St. Joseph High School Senior Cecilia Ruchti was announced as one of the MHSAA Scholar Athlete Award winners for 2024.

The MHSAA each year awards a total of 32 $2,000 scholarships to deserving students involved in an MHSAA sponsored sport.

Ruchti has been on the girls cross country team at St. Joe for all four years of high school, and is preparing for her fourth season on the tennis team this spring.

Cecilia reached the semifinals in the tennis state tournament in the #1 Doubles as the Bears as a team finished 6th.  She was all conference and all region in cross country last year, helping St. Joe reach the state finals the last three years.   That cross country team was also awarded academic all-state honors this past fall.

She’s also an athletic department intern and help coach tennis and was a camp instructor.  Plus she also tutors in the writing center.

Cecilia is still undecided as to what school she will attend this fall but will study marketing and design.

The SMAC conference of which St. Joe is a charter member has two student athletes that were named as MHSAA Scholar Athletes.   Bella Adams of Battle Creek Lakeview (volleyball, track) and Abrar Hossen of Portage Central (cross country, track)

Lakeshore’s Jack Carlisle was a finalist for one of the awards but was not chosen.
