St. Joe To Induct Four into Athletic Hall Of Fame

St. Joseph High School will be inducting four new members into it’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday.  The ceremony will take place during halftime of the boys varsity game between St. Joseph and Portage Central.   St. Joe will honor a total of five former athletes, the four new members and a member of last year’s Hall of Fame class that wasn’t able to attend last season.

The new members are Jamaal Jackson (2010 graduate), DeVonte Jones (2010 graduate), Benjamin Knuth (2004 graduate), Erika Priebe Kubath (2013 graduate).   They’ll be joined by Katie Mavis Gary (2011 graduate) who was unable to attend last year.

Jamaal Jackson played football, baseball and wrestling at St. Joe, earning 8 varsity letters.  He still holds the St. Joe football record in yards per carry and most touchdowns.  Jamaal went on to play college football at Ferris State University.

DeVonte Jones played football, basketball and ran track for the Bears, he earned 9 varsity letters.  Jones went on to play college football at Grand Valley State University.

Benjamin Knuth played basketball and baseball at St. Joe. He won 6 varsity letters.  In baseball he was all state 3 times. Going on to play at Grand Rapids Community College before playing at Pitt.  He played three years of professional baseball in Australia.

Erika Priebe Kubath earned a total of 9 letters in St. Joe, 4 of them in basketball, she was starting for St. Joe as a freshman, eventually playing alongside her older and younger sister.

Katie Mavis Gary was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, but was unable to attend as she was expecting her first child.  She was a four year starter in basketball, volleyball, and softball.  She was our WSJM Player of the Year in 2011. She went on the play basketball at Ferris State University.

The St. Joseph Athletic Hall of Fame is in it’s 34th year, and has nearly 200 members.  The list of inductees includes former athletes, coaches, staff members and community members who have made significant contributions to the St. Joseph Athletic Program.
