St. Joe falls late in District Finals

Mattawan 42, St. Joseph 37

A furious comeback by host Mattawan turned a five point deficit into a five point lead and the Wildcats beat St. Joseph 42-37 in the Division 1 Boys District Finals.

St. Joe trailed 15-12 at the half. But the Bears connected on 6 triples in the third quarter to take a 29-24 lead into the final eight minutes.

Mattawan chipped away at the St. Joe advantage and grabbed the lead just past the midway point of the final quarter.

Mattawan would seal the game from the free throw line and continue their season in the regional at Holt next Tuesday vs. DeWitt.

St. Joe completes the season at 9-14.  Ben Newland had 16 points to lead all scorers.  Dexter Shouse had 12 points to lead Mattawan (21-0), 9 of those in the final quarter.
