Bengals 34, Lions 11 – Joe Burrow throws 3 TDs as Bengals rout Lions 34-11
Joe Burrow tied a career high with three touchdown passes, helping the Cincinnati Bengals rout the Detroit Lions 34-11 Sunday. The Bengals already have four wins to equal last year’s total and to double their victories from 2019 during coach Zac Taylor’s debut season. Detroit is the NFL’s only winless team. The Lions could not rally as they did in closely contested setbacks against San Francisco, Baltimore and Minnesota. They failed to score until Austin Seibert made a 35-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter.

Packers 24, Bears 14 – Rodgers throws 2 TDs, runs for 1 as Packers beat Bears 24-14
Aaron Rodgers threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, leading the Green Bay Packers to a 24-14 victory over the Chicago Bears. The Packers (5-1) beat the Bears (3-3) for the 20th time in 23 games counting the playoffs and improved to 22-5 with Rodgers as the starter against Chicago. They also prevented Chicago from tying them for the NFC North lead. Rodgers shook off a sluggish start, throwing a 1-yard touchdown to Allen Lazard in the second quarter and a 12-yarder to Aaron Jones in the third. Rodgers put the Bears away after Justin Fields threw a 5-yard touchdown to Darnell Mooney as he scored from the 6 to cap a 75-yard drive.

Colts 31, Texans 3 – Indianapolis gets in sync with 31-3 victory over Houston
Carson Wentz threw two touchdown passes and Jonathan Taylor ran for another score for the Colts in a 31-3 dismantling of the Texans. Wentz threw a 28-yard TD pass to Mo Alie-Cox for a advantage in 17-3 third-quarter. The Colts have followed an 1-3 start with consecutive wins, and Houston has dropped five in a row since a season-opening win.

Vandersloot then scored in the lane to seal the win setting off the celebration. As the final buzzer sounded, Parker sprinted to the corner of the court and hugged her family with tears in her eyes.

Braves 5, Dodgers 4 – Late-night magic: Braves beat Dodgers 5-4, lead NLCS 2-0
The Braves won with a walk-off hit for the second night in a row when Eddie Rosario lined a two-out single off shortstop Corey Seager’s glove, giving Atlanta a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Braves lead the NL Championship Series two games to none. Atlanta twice rallied from two-run deficits before Rosario came up with his fourth hit of the game, a 105 mph scorcher up the middle on the first pitch after closer Kenley Jansen reliever. Seager tried for a backhand snag, and the ball skidded off his glove into center field.

NCAAFB – Cincinnati up to No. 2; Purdue snaps poll drought
Cincinnati has moved up to No. 2 behind Georgia in The Associated Press college football poll for the best ranking for a team from outside the traditional power conferences since 2010. The Bulldogs remained a unanimous No. 1 with 63 first-place votes in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank. The Bearcats inched up a spot, taking advantage of Iowa’s loss to Purdue. The Hawkeyes dropped nine places to No. 11. The Boilermakers moved into the rankings at No. 25, snapping the longest current AP poll drought for a Power Five school. Purdue was last ranked in 2007. No. 24 Texas-San Antonio is ranked for the first time in the history of the program. Oklahoma is No. 3, followed by Alabama and Ohio State.

NCAAFB – LSU, football coach Ed Orgeron to part ways at end of season
LSU and coach Ed Orgeron have agreed to part ways after this season. The move announced by athletic director Scott Woodward on Sunday night comes 21 months after Orgeron led the Tigers to a national championship with what is considered one of the greatest teams in college football history. The announcement surprisingly comes the day after the Tigers upset Florida. But the end for Coach O at LSU seemed to be approaching after a blowout loss last week to Kentucky. Orgeron is 49-17 with the Tigers, including 15-0 in 2019 when Joe Burrow won a Heisman Trophy and LSU its third national championship since 2003.

NASCAR – Larson reaches semifinals
Kyle Larson claimed the first of four championship-contending spots in NASCAR’s season finale with a dominating victory at Texas.  Larson led 256 of 334 laps at the 1 1/2-mile track and got his eighth win this season, staying in front through seven restarts in the final stage. Three of those restarts came after incidents involving playoff contenders Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. in the final 34 laps.  The seven remaining playoff contenders leave Texas with two more chances to get into the championship four. Ryan Blaney, Hamlin and Kyle Busch are above the cutline going to Kansas next weekend.

MILB – MLB to require housing for some minor leaguers in 2022
Major League Baseball says its owners have agreed to begin providing housing to certain minor league players beginning in the 2022 season. ESPN, citing anonymous sources, first reported Sunday on the owners’ decision, saying the league would require teams to provide housing either via stipends to fully cover housing or by arranging the lodging themselves. The league did not specify which players would be covered by the new policy. The move is expected to ease the burden on players, some of whom have incomes from teams that fall below the federal poverty line of $12,880 for individuals.

Olympics – Weather, protest cloud Beijing flame-lighting rehearsal
Cloudy weather has disrupted the dress rehearsal for the Beijing Winter Olympics flame-lighting ceremony at the birthplace of the ancient Games in Greece. And earlier Sunday, two protesters were detained on the Acropolis in Athens trying to raise a banner to draw attention to human-rights abuses in China. Health measures for the second pandemic flame-lighting at Ancient Olympia, in the southern Peloponnese region, mean that much of the normal pageantry is being trimmed back. There will be no spectators at Monday’s ceremony, and only three runners will take part in a symbolic relay that would normally have lasted days. The flame will be handed to Beijing officials in Athens on Tuesday.
