NFL
AFC Championship – Kansas City 35, Tennessee 24
Patrick Mahomes scored on an acrobatic 27-yard run just before halftime and the Kansas City Chiefs held NFL rushing leader Derrick Henry to 69 yards rushing in a 35-24 win over the Tennessee Titans in the AFC championship game. Tennessee led 17-7 until Mahomes led two touchdown drives over the last 4:03 of the first half, beginning with his 20-yard scoring strike to Tyreek Hill. Mahoms threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns as the Chiefs reached the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 years.

NFC Championship – San Francisco 37, Green Bay 20
The 49ers are in the Super Bowl for the first time in seven years after cruising to a 37-20 win over the Packers. Raheem Mostert ran for 220 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries, including 160 yards and three TDs by halftime to help San Francisco take a 27-0 lead into the locker room. The Niners racked up 285 yards rushing while Jimmy Garoppolo threw just eight times, completing six for 77 yards. Aaron Rogers threw for 326 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions for the Packers.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Notre Dame 76, Miami 53
The Irish outscored the Hurricanes 24-7 in the 3rd quarter to put the game away and snap a four game losing streak. Sam Brunelle led Notre Dame with 25 points.

Nebraska 74, Michigan 71
The Wolverines led by six at the half, but let it get away. Hailey Brown led the Wolverines with 17 points. Michigan has dropped three of its last four.

 

NBA
Indiana 115, Denver 107
Domantas Sabonis had 22 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists, Doug McDermott scored 18 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter and the Pacers rallied late to beat the Denver Nuggets 115-107. Malcom Brogdon and T.J. Warren added 22 points each for the Pacers, who snapped a 10-game skid at the Pepsi Center. They overcame a 30-point performance from the Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic to win their fifth straight overall. Jerami Grant and Will Barton added 16 points apiece for the Nuggets.

Chicago 5, Winnipeg 2
Patrick Kane reached 1,000 career points when he picked up an assist on Brandon Saad’s third-period goal, and the Blackhawks beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 for their season-high fifth straight win. Kane became the 90th player in NHL history to reach the milestone with 5:46 left. The All-Star winger passed from behind the net to Ryan Carpenter in the right circle. Carpenter then fed a wide-open Saad at the left side of the net for an easy tap-in before goalie Connor Hellebuyck could slide across the crease. Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine scored for Winnipeg.

TENNIS – AUSTRALIAN OPEN
Serena Williams and defending champion Naomi Osaka are off to good starts at the Australian Open.
Williams won her first set in 19 minutes and had a momentary lapse at the start of the second before completing a 6-0, 6-3 win over Anastasia Potapova. The eighth-seeded Williams is attempting to win her record 24th Grand Slam singles title.
The third-seeded Osaka was a straight-sets winner in the opening match at Rod Laver Arena. She won her last four games in a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Marie Bouzkova (booz-KOH’-vah).
No. 14 seed Sofia Kenin also moved into the second round, but fellow American Christina McHale lost in straight sets to 13th seed Petra Martic.
Roger Federer took another step toward a 21st Grand Slam singles title with a routine 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 win over Steve Johnson.
American Sam Querrey was the first winner on the men’s side. Eighth seed Matteo Berrettini also advanced in straight sets, but No. 13 Denis Shapovalov was eliminated in four sets.

 

PGA
Andrew Landry regrouped to win The American Express after blowing a six-stroke lead on the back nine.
Landry broke a tie with Abraham Ancer with a 7-foot birdie putt on the par-3 17th hole and made a 6-footer on the par-4 18th for a 5-under 67 and a two-stroke victory.
Landy won the pro-am event at PGA West two years after losing a playoff to Jon Rahm. The 32-year-old Texan has two PGA Tour victories, also winning the 2018 Texas Open.
