the successes of last season. The Lancers were 8-3 last year, and went on to the Division 3 District championship.

Second-year head coach Brian Keim said that his goal for the season is to win the conference championship and make a push in the playoffs. At this point in the preseason, Keim said that they have a lot of work to do but he likes what he sees so far. “I like our athletic ability, I like our energy, but we’ve got to realize that the big difference between JV and varsity is fundamentals,” he said.

Keim listed three defensive backs to be potential team leaders for the Lancers this season: inside linebacker Zach Schultz, outside linebacker Nate Schewe and defensive lineman Kyle Krayer. Aside from those three and three

returning offensive players, the team will be young. “Now it’s another group’s

turn to try and put their stamp on this program,” Keim said.

Schultz is particulary excited for this season, saying last year was fun, but that he expects more this year. “You really can’t ask for a better team,” he said. “I just want to be more of a leader this year compared to last year.”

Despite the mostly new faces on the team, Keim doesn’t have any plans to change his strategies on offense or defense. Keim expects the strength of the offense to come from the tailback and fullback, and the linebackers to be the strength of the defense. “Our linebackers are the only ones coming back with real experience,” he said.

Logan Adams, Corey Hampton, and Dustin VanDeventer are battling for the starting tailback position. Christian Seawood, Chris Osborn, and Christian Hansen are vying for time at fullback.  Keim is looking at either Joel Brawley or Zach Schultz as his starting quarterback.

Lakeshore will begin the season against at Battle Creek Central on Aug. 28.
