NFL – Agent: WR Perriman agrees to $3M, 1-year contract with Lions
Agent Drew Rosenhaus says wide receiver Breshad Perriman has agreed to a $3 million, one-year contract with the Detroit Lions. A person familiar with the situation says defensive end Charles Harris agreed to terms with Detroit. The person spoke Thursday night on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the deal. The Lions released reserve quarterback Chase Daniel on Thursday after announcing a swap of quarterbacks they agreed to in January. Detroit traded Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Jared Goff, two future first-round draft picks and a third-round pick.

NFL – Dalton says Bears told him starting quarterback job is his
Andy Dalton says the Chicago Bears have assured him the starting quarterback job is his and he won’t be competing with veteran Nick Foles. The former Cincinnati and Dallas QB says the Bears “told me I was the starter.” Dalton agreed Tuesday to a one-year, $10 million deal. He can earn an additional $3 million in bonuses. Dalton’s arrival is a big letdown for fans hoping the Bears would swing a blockbuster trade with Seattle for Russell Wilson.

NFL – Amazon gets Thursday night games, NFL nearly doubles TV deal
The NFL will nearly double its media revenue to more than $10 billion a season with new rights agreements announced Thursday, including a deal with Amazon Prime Video that gives the streaming service exclusive rights to “Thursday Night Football” beginning in 2022.  The league took in $5.9 billion a year in its current contracts. Amazon has partnered with the league to stream Thursday night games since 2017, but it will take over the entire package from Fox. Games will continue to air on CBS, Fox, NBC and ESPN, while ABC will have a limited schedule of games as well as returning to the Super Bowl rotation (two games) for the first time since the 2005 season.

NFL – Texans QB sued for alleged sexual assault
Three masseuses are suing Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson for alleged sexual assault. They accuse the star player of a “disturbing pattern” of behavior toward women. The lawsuits were filed this week. The 25-year-old Watson has broadly denied that he acted inappropriately and said he looks forward to clearing his name. A Houston police spokeswoman declined to comment on whether any of the incidents were reported to police.  The NFL says it is investigating the allegations.

FIFA – Ferreira lifts US over Costa Rica 1-0 in Olympic qualifying
Jesús Ferreira scored in the 35th minute and the United States opened its bid to reach the Olympic men’s soccer tournament after a pair of misses by beating Costa Rica 1-0 at Guadalajara, Mexico. The U.S. last qualified in 2008, failing to reach the 2012 London Games and 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. This qualifying opener originally was scheduled for March 20 last year but was delayed by the novel coronavirus pandemic. FIFA kept the original age limit, requiring players be born Jan. 1, 1997, or later.

Golf – PGA – Jones ties course record with a 61 in Honda opening round
Matt Jones has tied the course record at PGA National in the first round of the Honda Classic with a 9-under 61.  The 83rd-ranked player from Australia was flawless with nine birdies and no bogeys in tying Brian Harmon’s course record set in 2012.  Aaron Wise and Russell Henley share second, three shots back and two ahead of Scott Harrington, Kevin Chappell, Cameron Davis, Steve Stricker and Joseph Bramlett.

Tennis – Wimbledon organizers looking for fans this season
Wimbledon organizers are working on the basis of having a reduced number of spectators in the grounds for this year’s tournament because of coronavirus restrictions. The All England Club says it is remaining “flexible” as it reacts to changing circumstances amid the pandemic as the British government follows a roadmap out of lockdown. The club says there will be mandatory requirement for all players, their support teams and tennis officials to be in an official tournament hotel rather than in private houses. Wimbledon was scrapped last year for the first time since World War II.
