(2) Michigan 69, Michigan State 50 – No. 2 Michigan wraps up Big Ten, beats Michigan State 69-50
Franz Wagner scored 19 points, Hunter Dickinson added 14 and No. 2 Michigan wrapped up the Big Ten title with a 69-50 victory over rival Michigan State. The Wolverines had a chance to clinch the championship based on winning percentage with a victory in any of their final three games. They were blown out by No. 4 Illinois on Tuesday night. But they rebounded with a gritty effort two nights later. Michigan State will finish with a losing conference record for the first time since 1993. Aaron Henry led the Spartans with 14 points.

Knicks 114, Pistons 111 – Randle, Knicks reach break over .500, beat Pistons 114-104
Julius Randle capped his All-Star first half with 27 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists, sending the New York Knicks into the break with a winning record after a 114-104 victory over the Detroit Pistons. RJ Barrett added 21 points for the Knicks, who improved to 19-18 in their first season under Tom Thibodeau. They have missed the playoffs for seven straight years but finished the first half in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Elfrid Payton had 20 points after missing the last four games with a sore right hamstring. Wayne Ellington scored 17 points for the Pistons

Nuggets 113, Pacers 103 – Nuggets close out 1st half with 113-103 win at Indiana
Michael Porter Jr. scored 24 points and Nikola Jokic added 20 points and 12 rebounds to help the Denver Nuggets get past the Indiana Pacers 113-103. Denver closed out the first half of the season with four straight road wins. Indiana was led by Myles Turner’s 22 points and Domantas Sabonis had his fourth triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The Pacers lost for the fifth time in six games. The Pacers also have lost five straight on their home court. Denver broke a 68-all tie by closing the third quarter on a 14-6 run and sealed the win with a 12-0 spurt midway through the fourth.

NBA – James, Durant choose their teams for Sunday’s All-Star Game
LeBron James has faced Giannis Antetokounmpo as an opponent in the last three All-Star Games. The Los Angeles Lakers’ star got him as a teammate this year. James used the No. 1 overall pick on Antetokounmpo in the draft for Sunday’s All-Star Game in Atlanta. Kevin Durant, who will not play in the All-Star Game because of injury but still is the captain for Team Durant, took Brooklyn teammate Kyrie Irving with his first pick. The other starters for Team LeBron will be Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic. The other starters for Team Durant will be Joel Embiid, Kawhi Leonard, Bradley Beal and Jayson Tatum.

Tampa Bay Lightning 3, Chicago Blackhawks 2 – OT

Hurricanes 5, Red Wings 2 – Hurricanes take over in 3rd period, beat Red Wings 5-2
Jordan Staal and Jesper Fast scored a pair of goals early in the third period to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Detroit Red Wings 5-2. Andrei Svechnikov, Martin Necas and Nino Niederreiter also scored for the Hurricanes. The game was tied at 2-all before Carolina scored three times in the final period. It was Carolina’s first game in front of limited fans after the state eased public-gathering restrictions last week. Filip Zadina scored twice for the Red Wings, who led 2-1 until late in the second period.

Lightning 3, Blackhawks 2 – OT – Lightning top Blackhawks on Killorn’s horn-beating OT goal
Alex Killorn scored 4:59 into overtime, with the puck barely over the line at the horn, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 for their sixth straight victory. Steven Stamkos and Anthony Cirelli also scored for Tampa Bay, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 35 saves in another stellar performance. Killorn got a piece of Victor Hedman’s long shot from above the slot just before time expired. Killorn’s fourth goal was upheld after a video review.

NHL – Walter Gretzky, father of NHL star Wayne Gretzky, dies at 82
Walter Gretzky, the father of hockey great Wayne Gretzky, has died. He was 82. Wayne Gretzky said in a statement Thursday night that his father battled Parkinson’s disease and other health issues the past few years. In his younger days, Walter Gretzky became a name himself, appearing with his famous son in commercials and emerging as a blue-collar symbol of a devoted hockey parent.

MLB – Major League Baseball to hold first Lou Gehrig Day on June 2
Major League Baseball will hold its first Lou Gehrig Day on June 2, adding Gehrig to Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente on the short list of players honored throughout the big leagues. Each home team will have “4-ALS” logos in ballparks to mark Gehrig’s No. 4, and all players, managers and coaches will wear a Lou Gehrig Day patch on uniforms and may use red “4-ALS” wristbands. Teams that are off on June 2 will observe Lou Gehrig Day on June 3. June 2 marks the 96th anniversary of when Gehrig made started at first base for the New York Yankees in place of Wally Pipp, starting his record streak of 2,130 consecutive games played.

  • Lakeshore coach Sean Schroeder picked up his 300th career win at Lakeshore with a 57-45 win over Kalamazoo Loy Norrix. JJ Bushu was 14 of 15 from the free throw line and finished with a game high 21 points.  TJ Mitchell had 11 and Brandon Hudder scored 10.

  • St. Joe had a one point lead after the first quarter but Lakeview led the rest of the way, slowly pulling away for a 44-37 win.  Connor Wright had 10 points to lead the Bears.
