The Detroit Lions have signed wide receiver Travis Fulgham off their practice squad, bolstering depth at a position without veteran standout Marvin Jones. Detroit put defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand on injured reserve with an ankle injury. The Lions also added wide receiver Jonathan Duhart to the practice squad. Detroit drafted Fulgham in the sixth round this year. The former Old Dominion standout was on Detroit’s roster for the first three games of the season before going to the practice squad. Hand was limited to three games this year.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL…
LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is The Associated Press college football player of the year in a landslide. He is the first LSU players to win the 21-year-old award. Burrow has led the top-ranked Tigers to an unbeaten season and their first College Football Playoff appearance. He received 51 of 54 first-place votes from AP Top 25 poll voters and a total of 159 points. Ohio State defensive end Chase Young was second with three first-place votes and 69 points. Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields was third with 43 points.

BASEBALL…
A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the Detroit Tigers and catcher Austin Romine have agreed to a $4.15 million, one-year contract. The 31-year-old Romine has backed up Gary Sánchez for the New York Yankees the past four seasons. Praised mostly for his defense and management of the pitching staff, Romine steadily has improved as a hitter. He batted .281 with eight home runs and a .748 OPS in 72 games last season. Romine made $1.8 million last season. He will likely become Detroit’s starter. Romine is the younger brother of Andrew Romine, who was a utility player for Detroit from 2014-17.
