Less than two months after Kevin Bartz announced he was stepping down as head coach of the Edwardsburg football program, the school has named his successor.

Assistant coach Dan Purlee has been promoted to the role as head coach.  Purlee has spent the last two seasons on the Eddies staff, but he has been a head coach previously.

Purlee was the head coach in Cassopolis from the 2012 through the 2019 season before stepping down in the offseason.   Purlee led the Rangers to a 70-22 record, and seven playoff appearances.  During that time Cassopolis won four district titles and two regionals championships.

Purlee replaces Keven Bartz, who spent 28 seasons as the Eddies head coach with a record of 216-78, including a 2018 Division 4 State Championship. Bartz stepped down in February.

Purlee’s first game as head coach will be on Thursday, August 27 at 7:00 at Leo Hoffman Field in Edwardsburg against last year’s Division 4 State Champion Grand Rapids West Catholic.
