Chicago Bulls 124, Miami Heat 116
Bulls 124, Heat 116 – Bulls run out to huge lead, then hang on to beat Heat 124-116
The Chicago Bulls started the night by doing something their franchise hadn’t seen since the Michael Jordan era. They ended up doing something that not even Jordan’s great teams did. A 33-8 run to start the game set the tone, and the Bulls just made the Miami Heat try in vain to catch them the rest of the way. Coby White scored 26 points, reserve Ayo Dosunmu added 24 and the Bulls topped the Heat 124-116 on Thursday night. Nikola Vucevic finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists for the Bulls. White had 11 assists and seven rebounds. Ayo Dosunmu scored 24 points for Chicago, and DeMar DeRozan had 23. Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored 22 for Miami. The 25-point lead in the first quarter was the biggest by Chicago since Jordan and the Bulls led Golden State by 27 in the opening period of a game on Jan. 31, 1997. And the final scoring numbers — four players with at least 23 points — was something that no Bulls team had done since 1969.

Raiders 63, Chargers 21 – Four days after losing 3-0, Raiders set franchise scoring record, beat Chargers 63-21
Four days after losing 3-0, the Las Vegas Raiders set a franchise scoring record with a 63-21 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The Raiders scored 42 points by halftime. They didn’t let the Chargers cross midfield until the third quarter. It was the most points for the Raiders, beating out their 59-14 victory at Denver in 2010. The Raiders led 42-0 at halftime, just three points shy of the NFL record for halftime margin that was set in 2009 when the New England led Tennessee 45-0. The halftime deficit was the biggest in Chargers history.

Hurricanes 2, Red Wings 1 – Jordan Staal breaks 2nd-period tie, Hurricanes beat Red Wings 2-1
Jordan Staal broke a tie midway through the second period and the Carolina Hurricanes held off the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 on Thursday night. Jack Drury also scored for Carolina and Pyotr Kochetkov made 25 saves. The Hurricanes finished off a six-game trip with consecutive victories after dropping the first four. Michael Rasmussen scored for Detroit in the second period for his 100th career point. Ville Husso stopped 36 shots for the Red Wings. They have lost four of five. A fortunate carom allowed the Hurricanes to regain the advantage with 8:12 left in the second. Brett Pesce dumped the puck into Detroit’s zone. Husso strayed from the crease to retrieve the puck, but it took an odd bounce and Staal tapped it in.
Kraken 7, Blackhawks 1 – Kailer Yamamoto scores 2 early goals to spark Kraken to 7-1 romp over Blackhawks
Kailer Yamamoto scored twice in the first period, Oliver Bjorkstrand had a goal and two assists and the Seattle Kraken shut down rookie sensation Connor Bedard in a 7-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night. Seattle won consecutive games for just the third time this season and the first time without needing overtime. The Kraken snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over Florida on Tuesday night and followed up by overpowering the outmatched Blackhawks. Bjorkstrand, Tye Kartye and Eeli Tolvanen scored during the three-goal second period, and Jared McCann and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare scored 21 seconds apart early in the third period. Seattle goalie Joey Daccord followed up his first career shutout by stopping 21 of 22 shots.

NCAA – NCAA says a redshirt rule still applies, fears free agency if it loses transfer suit
College basketball programs with athletes who have transferred two or more times previously are consulting their legal teams about whether to let them play. A federal judge’s temporary restraining order against the NCAA says athletes who previously were denied the chance to play immediately can compete in games for 14 days. Some schools are consulting with their legal teams to determine the next steps. A document circulated by the NCAA clarifies that if the court’s decision is reversed, players who compete during the two-week window would be using a season of eligibility. The NCAA suggests the lawsuit also would open college athletics to free agency.
NCAAFB – Former Oregon State QB Aidan Chiles following coach Jonathan Smith to MSU
Former Oregon State quarterback Aidan Chiles has announced he is following coach Jonathan Smith to Michigan State as a transfer. Chiles hade his commitment to Michigan State public in a social media post. He played in nine games this season as a freshman backup to DJ Uiagalelei. The former four-star recruit from California threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns and ran for three scores. Smith left Oregon State to become the head coach at Michigan State on Nov. 25.
MLB – In first news conference, Ohtani dodges questions about Tommy John surgery
Shohei Ohtani opened his first news conference with the Los Angeles Dodgers by dodging questions about whether he had a second Tommy John surgery. He says: “It was a procedure. I’m not sure what it was called.” Speaking to media for the first time since Aug. 9, he also refused to say what other teams he negotiated with before the agreement last weekend on a record $700 million, 10-year contract. Ohtani wore a navy business suit with a white shirt and blue tie, took off the jacket and put on a Dodgers home jersey with No. 17.
