Elliot Uzelac has resigned as football coach at Benton Harbor High School. He met with the team this past Friday to let them know of his decision.

Uzelac tells WSJM Sports that dealings with the Benton Harbor School Board lead to him stepping down. He cited school board harassment of former athletic director Tray Crusciel and false accusations that forced him to also resign.

Uzelac also pointed out poor performance in the classroom that the acting superintendent, school board members, and school counselors claimed they were unaware of. He has information that shows that as of May 17, 2018, there were 1,116 grades of “F” recorded for the Benton Harbor High School student body, an average of three F’s per student. Under the current direction, several student athletes were not able to pass the required classes in order to be eligible.

He did want to thank those who made the recent success of the Benton Harbor Football team possible…
-his assistant coaches
-the “Tiger Moms”
-the booster club led by Dave Mack and Jeff Dorn
-all of the restaurants that provided food for the players
-donors that made financial contributions
-the Overflow Church members who provided great messages along with meals for the players

Coach Uzelac sat down with Phil McDonald to further explain the situation and what led to his resignation. You can hear the conversation below. Town Crier Wire readers, go to wsjmsports.com to hear the conversation…
