Matt Melcher of Watervliet High School Wrestling is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of February 4, 2018. At Team Districts, Matt helped lead the Panthers to the title going 2-0 on the night with pins against Bangor and Lawrence. Then at Individual Districts, Matt won the 215 lb. championship with two pins and a 4-1 decision.
Matt is also a member of the Watervliet football team. In the classroom, he carries a 3.81 grade point average.
Matt is the son of William and Angela Melcher of Hartford.
Other finalists for the week were Justin Beckrow of Bridgman/Lakeshore swimming, Jasmine Pitone of Berrien Springs competitive cheer, and Kyrah Sanders of Berrien Springs Basketball.
