Lake Michigan Catholic Football coach Toby Riley is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Coach of the Year.
Coach Riley took a team that had finished 2-7 the year before and led them to an 8-1 regular season record and a spot in the MHSAA playoffs.
Two seasons ago, Lake Michigan Catholic averaged just 16 points per game while giving up nearly 34 points per game. This past season, Coach Riley’s offense averaged over 22 points per game while allowing just 14.
In 2015, Lake Michigan Catholic finished 1-3 in BCS Blue Division play. This past season, Riley led the Lakers to a 4-0 division mark and the division championship.
