Bears 16, Panthers 13 – Foreman runs for TD, Bears beat Panthers 16-13 to boost their shot at the top pick
D’Onta Foreman ran for a touchdown and the Chicago Bears boosted their shot at the top pick in the draft, beating the Carolina Panthers 16-13 on Thursday night. The Bears (3-7) also boosted their chances at the No. 1 pick because they have Carolina’s first-rounder in 2024. They acquired the pick along with Moore last March for the top selection this year. The Panthers (1-8) are tied with Arizona — which plays Atlanta on Sunday — for the worst record in the NFL. Foreman gave the Bears a 16-10 lead in the third quarter with a 4-yard run. Chicago was clinging to a three-point lead with 1:40 remaining when Carolina’s Eddy Pineiro attempted a 59-yard field goal. The ball landed well short.

NFL – Chargers defense has difficult challenge against Lions high-powered Lions offense
With two straight wins, Khalil Mack and the Los Angeles Chargers defense have their confidence back. Sunday’s opponent though will provide a better indicator if they have turned the corner. The Chargers host Jared Goff and Detroit on Sunday. The Lions are coming off the bye and have the league’s second-most productive offense. The Lions come into the game as one of only two teams ranked in the top six in both rushing and passing.  Goff is fifth in the league, averaging 271.4 yards per game. He is tied for second with 35 completions of at least 20 yards and faces a Chargers defense that has allowed 35 passes of 20 or more yards, fifth most in the league. Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown has three straight 100-yard games with 31 receptions for 334 yards and a touchdown.

The Spartans began the season with a loss to James Madison in overtime before getting a lopsided win Thursday over an overmatched team in its second season of Division I basketball. The Screaming Eagles missed 17 of their first 18 shots and trailed 37-14 at halftime. They were much more competitive early in the second half, going on a 12-0 run to cut deficit to 15 points.

NCAAFB – MSU is next as Ohio State tries not to look ahead to showdown with Michigan
No. 3 Ohio State is winning, but it hasn’t always been pretty. The Buckeyes struggled with Rutgers last week before finally pulling away in a game that was closer than the 35-16 score indicated. Ohio State theoretically should have an easier time with Michigan State, which visits the Horseshoe on Saturday night. The Spartans got their first Big Ten win over Nebraska last week after losing six straight since former coach Mel Tucker was suspended and later fired. The Buckeyes are hurtling toward the much-anticipated showdown with No. 2 Michigan on Nov. 25 in Ann Arbor.

NCAAFB – College football’s top defenses to square off when Michigan visits Penn State
No. 9 Penn State looks to upstage Michigan’s top-ranked defense when the No. 2 Wolverines visit Beaver Stadium on Saturday. The Nittany Lions also want to keep their conference title hopes alive. The Wolverines, who’ve arguably been just as good on offense as they have been on defense, can snuff them out and get one step closer to winning the Big Ten East. Michigan is allowing just 6.7 points and 231.4 total yards per game. No team has taken a single snap inside Michigan’s 10-yard-line this season.

Canadiens 3, Red Wings 2 – OT – Caulfield scores in OT as Canadiens beat Red Wings 3-2

Mike Matheson had a goal and two assists, and Nick Suzuki had a goal and an assist for Montreal, which ended an 0-3-1 slide. Christian Fischer and J.T. Compher had goals for the Red Wings, who have lost six of eight (2-4-2) overall and four of their last five (1-3-1) at home. James Reimer finished with 23 saves. In the extra period, Caufield zipped a high wrist shot over Reimer’s left shoulder for his fifth goal of the season. It was Reimer’s holding penalty that had put Montreal on the power play.

Blackhawks 5, Lightning 3 – Bedard’s 2 goals, 2 assists help Blackhawks snap an 8-game skid vs. Lightning
Top draft pick Connor Bedard had his first multi-point game with two goals and two assists as the Chicago Blackhawks beat Tampa Bay 5-3, snapping an eight-game losing streak against the Lightning. The 18-year-old Bedard powered Chicago to its first win over the Lightning since a 4-3 shootout victory on March 5, 2021. Rookie defenseman Kevin Korchinski and ex-Lightning forwards Tyler Johnson and Corey Perry also scored for Chicago. Nick Foligno had three assists and Petr Mrazek made 31 saves. Anthony Cirelli, Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos scored for the Lightning, who lost in regulation for the first time in seven home games this season (4-1-2). Jonas Johansson made 24 saves.
