Brewers 6, Tigers 2 – Caratini, Wiemer homer, Brewers top Tigers 6-2, Báez hurt
Victor Caratini and rookie Joey Wiemer homered to back Freddy Peralta, leading the Milwaukee Brewers over the Detroit Tigers 6-2 to avoid a series sweep and stop a three-game losing streak. Detroit shortstop Javier Báez, who entered with a 10-game hitting streak, left in the first inning after being struck on the left hand by a 93 mph Peralta pitch,. The Tigers said Báez’s hand was bruised and X-rays were negative. Peralta allowed a pair of unearned runs and four hits over six innings. Bryse Wilson, Hoby Milner, Peter Strzelecki and Devin Williams finished a six-hitter.  After Brian Anderson misplayed Nick Maton’s fly to right for an error in the fourth, Detroit scored a pair of unearned runs on the first of Akil Baddoo’s two doubles and Jake Rogers’ run-scoring single.

Blue Jays 8, White Sox 0 – Springer hurts hand, Blue Jays finish sweep of White Sox 8-0
Yusei Kikuchi struck out eight batters over 5 2/3 innings, Bo Bichette hit a solo home run and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the slumping White Sox 8-0 to complete a three-game sweep. The loss Wednesday extends Chicago’s losing streak to seven. Blue Jays outfielder George Springer left in the fourth, one inning after he was hit on the right hand by a pitch from White Sox right-hander Michael Kopech. X-rays did not reveal a fracture. Bichette went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and scored twice. He hit a first-pitch homer off Jimmy Lambert in the seventh.

Padres 5, Cubs 3 – Tatis, Cronenworth lead Padres past Cubs 5-3
Fernando Tatis Jr. drove in three runs with a pair of singles, lifting the San Diego Padres to a 5-3 win over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night. With runners at second and third in the seventh, Tatis hit Brandon Hughes’ 2-1 slider past diving Cubs third baseman Patrick Wisdom to score both and give the Padres a 4-3 lead. He knocked in an insurance run in the ninth with a line shot to center. Nick Martinez (2-1) pitched three scoreless innings for the win in his first relief appearance this season after four starts. Josh Hader worked around Yan Gomes’ double and a walk in the ninth for his ninth save. Hughes (0-1), the second of five Cubs relievers took the loss.

NHL – Wild, Red Wings, Maple Leafs and Senators going to Sweden
The NHL is sending four teams to Sweden next season as part of its annual Global Series. The Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators will each play two games among them in Stockholm in November. It’s one of two trips outside North America the league has planned for 2023. The Los Angeles Kings and Arizona Coyotes are set to play two exhibition games in Melbourne, Australia, in September. The NHL is trying to significantly expand hockey interest Down Under while also cultivating and growing an already fervent fanbase in Scandinavia and across Europe.  The Red Wings will face the Senators on Nov. 16 and the Leafs on Nov. 17.  The league chose the Wild, Maple Leafs, Red Wings and Senators not only for their current volume of Swedes but the organizations’ history of them, including Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg and Ottawa’s Daniel Alfredsson, who also played one season for the Red Wings.

NFL – Rodgers hopes to help Jets add to ‘lonely’ Super Bowl trophy
Aaron Rodgers believes he’s where he needs to be. And the New York Jets’ new quarterback thinks they can do big things together. The four-time NFL MVP was introduced by the team Wednesday to much fanfare in the team’s auditorium. Rodgers said it’s a surreal day for him and he’s looking forward to the new adventure in New York. The Jets received Rodgers, the No. 15 overall pick and a fifth-rounder this year from the Packers. In exchange, Green Bay got the 13th overall selection, a second-rounder, a sixth-rounder and a conditional 2024 second-round pick that could become a first-rounder if Rodgers plays 65% of New York’s plays this season. Rodgers spent his first 18 seasons in Green Bay.

NFL – NFL, other leagues balancing betting revenue, game integrity
The NFL and other sports leagues spent many years staying as far away as they could from sports betting because they said it was necessary to protect the integrity of their games. Those entities now have a much different challenge. The biggest professional sports leagues today have high revenue-producing partnerships with sports betting companies that they want to maintain. The NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, NHL and others as well as broadcasters NBCUniversal and Fox have announced the formation of the Coalition for Responsible Sports Betting Advertising.
