Red Wings 4, Penguins 3 – OT – Wings rally to defeat Penguins in overtime
Justin Abdelkader scored the game-winning goal with 44 seconds left in overtime to complete a 4-3 comeback victory for the Detroit Red Wings over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Henrik Zetterberg got his stick on Paul Martin’s clearing attempt before Abdelkader jumped on the loose puck in the slot and fired it over the shoulder of Thomas Greiss for the win. Niklas Kronwall had two goals and an assist and Zetterberg also had a three-point night, tallying a goal and two assists for Detroit, which has registered at least a point in each of its last five games. Jimmy Howard made 23 saves in the win. Pascal Dupuis, Olli Maatta and Chris Kunitz all scored for the Penguins, who had Greiss stop 27-of-31 shots in his season debut.

Predators 3, Blackhawks 2 – Neal’s hat trick helps Preds beat Hawks
James Neal registered his fifth career hat trick and the Nashville Predators beat the visiting Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 on Thursday night. Pekka Rinne turned away 30 shots for the Predators, who have picked up at least a point in each of their first seven games (5-0-2). It’s the longest the team has gone without a regulation loss to open a season since starting the 2010-11 campaign with a 5-0-3 record. Ben Smith and Andrew Shaw supplied the goals in Chicago’s (4-1-1) first regulation loss of the season. Antti Raanta, making his second consecutive start in place of Corey Crawford (upper-body injury), stopped 24 shots.

All three of Manning’s TD passes went to Emmanuel Sanders, who caught nine passes for 120 yards. Rookie running back Juwan Thompson added two TD runs for Denver. Even with a short week of preparation, Manning was in midseason form. Manning was 25 of 35 for 286 yards. He led the Broncos to 77 points in a span of 96 hours this week. The Broncos improved to 6-1 while the visiting Chargers fell to 5-3. The AFC West-leading Broncos enter a stretch where 4 of their next 5 games are on the road
