NCAA Football – MAC – MAC reprimands players over no handshake
The Mid-American Conference has reprimanded four Central Michigan football players who refused to shake hands with Western Michigan players during the coin toss. MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher says it was a violation of the conference’s sportsmanship policy. He says a handshake may be a simple gesture but it symbolizes the “ethics and traditions of the game.” Titus Davis, Justin Cherocci, Andy Phillips and Leterrius Walton refused to shake hands with Western Michigan captains Saturday. They later apologized and acknowledged it was “disrespectful.” Central Michigan coach Dan Enos says the four have been removed as captains. Athletic director Dave Heeke also apologized to the Broncos, who won the game, 32-20.

NCAA Football – Jones, Day, Tranquill out for Notre Dame vs. USC
Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says starting defensive lineman Jarron Jones and safety Drue Tranquill have suffered season-ending injuries and defensive lineman Sheldon Day also will be out Saturday against Southern California. Kelly says Jones is out with a torn ligament in his foot while Tranquill is out with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. Jones is seventh on the team with 40 tackles and was injured early in the game against Louisville. Tranquill, a freshman, started two of the past three games and is 10th on the team in tackles with 33. Kelly says Day, who has 38 tackles, will miss a second straight game with a knee sprain. Linebacker Nyles Morgan will sit the first half against USC after being called for targeting against Louisville.

NCAA Football – Playoff teams stay the same

NFL – Detroit’s Raiola says he hasn’t been fined<
Detroit center Dominic Raiola says he hasn’t been fined by the NFL for his cut block during a kneel-down at the end of the Lions’ loss to New England on Sunday. Raiola says he didn’t intentionally try to hurt anybody or try to do anything out of the ordinary, and he “would have gotten a FedEx letter” if he had. Raiola spoke with reporters Tuesday but tried to keep the focus on Thursday’s game against Chicago. The Patriots scored a late touchdown in their 34-9 win over Detroit. Afterward, Raiola told the Detroit Free Press: “We took a knee, so I cut the nose (tackle). They went for six. They went for a touchdown at 2 minutes. They could have took three knees and the game would have been over.”
