(19) Michigan 70, Oregon 63 – No. 19 Michigan tops Oregon 70-63 in Legends
Zak Irwin scored 19 points and Caris LeVert added 18 to lead No. 19 Michigan to a 70-63 win over Oregon on Monday night. The Wolverines used an 8-0 run midway through the second half to snap a tie game and give them just the separation they needed to advance to the Legends Classic final at the Barclays Center. The Wolverines never trailed and made 23 of 29 free throws to hold off the Ducks. LeVert was key down the stretch, twisting his way down the lane for tough baskets and getting a rise out of the hundreds of fans in maize and blue who made the trip. Joseph Young had 20 points for the Ducks. Ducks forward Dwayne Benjamin had eight points and 11 rebounds before leaving late in the game with an apparent left ankle injury.

(20) Michigan State 79, Santa Clara 52 – Schilling, Michigan St beat Santa Clara 79-52
Gavin Schilling had career highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds, leading No. 20 Michigan State to a 79-52 victory over Santa Clara on Monday night. Travis Trice scored 19 points and had eight of his team’s 22 assists on 29 baskets. Marvin Clark Jr., starting in place of Branden Dawson _ out with the flu _ had 15 points and four blocked shots for the Spartans (3-1), who never trailed and built a 40-14 halftime lead. Denzel Valentine added 13 points and 11 rebounds. But the spark came from Schilling, who hit four straight shots from the field in an eight-point, seven-rebound first half while playing just 10 minutes. Jared Brownridge had 12 points for the Broncos (2-2), who shot just 16.7 percent from the field before the break and 29 percent overall.

San Diego 77, WMU 70 – San Diego hands W. Michigan its first loss
Johnny Dee scored 21 points and drilled three 3-pointers in the final 10 minutes, leading four players into double figures and San Diego to a 77-70 win over Western Michigan Monday night. The teams were tied at 56-56 with under 10 minutes to play when the Toreros began to slowly pull away, beginning with a 3-pointer by Dee. Another Dee 3 two minutes later made it a nine-point San Diego lead with 7:08 left. Dee was 7 of 13 from the field and 4 of 9 from behind the arc before fouling out in the final minute of play. Thomas Jacobs pulled down 11 rebounds and Chris Anderson dished off 12 assists for San Diego (3-1).  The loss was the first in four games for Western Michigan. David Brown led the Broncos with 20 points, with Tucker Haymond and Austin Richie each contributing 16 points.

Red Wings 4, Senators 3 – Weiss scores 2 goals, Red Wings beat Senators 4-3
Stephen Weiss scored twice during Detroit’s three-goal second period to help the Red Wings beat the Ottawa Senators 4-3 on Monday night. Playing his second game this season after missing much of it with injuries, Weiss had a pair of rebound goals late in the second to lift Detroit to its third victory in four games. Riley Sheahan gave the Red Wings the lead for good during an early power play in the second when he knocked home a rebound of Tomas Tatar’s shot. Jimmy Howard made 23 saves for his ninth win. Craig Anderson stopped 39 shots in Ottawa’s second consecutive loss.

NHL – Longtime coach dies
Former NHL player, coach and executive Pat Quinn has died at age 71, after a long illness. Quinn played parts of nine seasons in the NHL and went on to enjoy a long coaching career. He coached Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Toronto, leading the Flyers and Canucks to the Stanley Cup finals. Quinn also guided Canada to the gold medal at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City.

NCAA Football – Hoke’s job security underlying current in The Game
While everyone talks about his job security, Michigan’s Brady Hoke refuses to get caught up in the speculation. Hoke batted aside questions about his future with the Wolverines and instead spoke mainly about his team’s preparation for its annual grudge match with Ohio State on Saturday.  The familiar foes meet for the 111th time. The No. 7 Buckeyes (10-1, 7-0 Big Ten, No. 6 CFP) have clinched a spot in the conference title game but their hopes of making the four-team national playoffs also might be affected by the battle with their chief rivals. The stakes are much, much different for the Wolverines. Michigan (5-6, 3-4) needs a win just to be bowl eligible, in addition to momentarily quieting the talk about Hoke’s future.

Chicago Bulls at Utah Jazz, 9 p.m.

Bulls 97, Jazz 95 – Butler, Gasol lead Bulls over Jazz 97-95
Jimmy Butler scored 25 points and Pau Gasol added 23 points and nine rebounds to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 97-95 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday night. Derrick Rose scored 18 points in his return to the Bulls’ lineup. Chicago beat the Jazz for ninth time in the last 12 games between the two teams. Derrick Favors scored 21 points and pulled down a season-high 15 rebounds for Utah, which rallied from a 21-point deficit, but couldn’t close it out. Enes Kanter had 19 points and eight rebounds while Trey Burke had 18 and 10 assists. Utah took its first lead of the game early in the fourth quarter when Trevor Booker made a layup to put the Jazz up 80-78. Chicago briefly retook an 87-84 lead when Aaron Brooks drained a 3-pointer. Utah answered by scoring seven unanswered points, going up 91-87 on a running jumper from Favors with 3:30 left.

(2) Notre Dame 97, Harvard 43 – No. 2 Notre Dame routs Harvard 97-43
Taya Reimer scored 14 points to lead No. 2 Notre Dame to a 97-43 win over visiting Harvard on Monday night. Harvard struggled from the field, hitting just 17 percent of its attempts in the first half and 29 percent on the game. Notre Dame shot 49 percent.  Notre Dame dominated Harvard on the boards, outrebounded them 50-26.

Bills 38, Jets 3 – Motown a good town for Bills
Kyle Orton threw for two touchdowns and the Buffalo Bills’ defense allowed just 218 yards in a 38-3 laugher against the New York Jets. Orton was 24 of 32 for 230 yards and no interceptions to help the displaced Bills dominate in Motown. Heavy snow in the Buffalo area moved the game to Detroit, but there were plenty of Bills fans in attendance at Ford Field.

Ravens 34, Saints 27 – Ravens top sputtering Saints
Will Hill brought back an interception 44 yards for a touchdown that put the Baltimore Ravens ahead to stay in the third quarter of a 34-27 win over the Saints in New Orleans. Justin Forsett rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns as the Ravens completed a four-game sweep of NFC South opponents.

NFL – Browns looking into alleged fight involving Manziel’s entourage 
Cleveland police say a Browns fan who says he wanted to give Johnny Manziel “a hug” was struck by the rookie quarterback’s entourage at a downtown hotel and was left with a swollen eye and lip. The fan said he took one step toward Manziel and was punched by a man before he was struck several times in the face and “pushed and attacked” by a group of unidentified men who were with Manziel. The man who threw the first punch said the fan tried to assault Manziel.

Olympic Hockey – “Miracle On Ice” – Russian hockey great dies
Viktor Tikhonov, the Soviet hockey coach whose teams won three Olympic gold medals but fell to the United States in the “Miracle on Ice,” has died after a long illness. He was 84. Under Tikhonov, the Soviets were a powerhouse, although it had to settle for the silver medal at the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid after the stunning defeat to the United States. Tikhonov’s teams went on to win three Olympic gold medals. He also led the Soviet team to eight world championship titles.

MLB – Bosox get Sandoval, Ramirez
The Boston Red Sox have worked out contracts with free-agent infielders Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez. The 28-year-old Sandoval is a career .294 hitter who had 16 homers and 73 RBIs in the regular season for San Francisco this year. The 30-year-old Ramirez spent last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, batting .283 with 13 homers and 71 RBIs.

MLB – Hall of Fame 2015 ballot revealed
Pitchers Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez and John Smoltz are among 17 newcomers on baseball’s 2015 Hall of Fame ballot. Craig Biggio tops 17 holdovers on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America ballot announced Monday. That group includes Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, Mike Piazza, Jeff Bagwell and Tim Raines.

LMC Women 74, Calvin JV 47                 LMC Men 75, Calvin JV 67
Lake Michigan College swept a doubleheader from the Calvin College JV Knights.  Shalay Stevens led three players in double figures with 11 points as the Lady Red Hawks beat the Knights 74-47. In the night cap, the LMC men scored a 75-67 win over Calvin.  Montel Green led the way with a game high 20 points.
